We’re taking another step to unlock clean, affordable energy solutions that strengthen the grid. Through a new collaboration with MN8 Energy and Eos Energy Enterprises, Google is backing an innovative, multi-technology clean energy project on the PJM grid.

The project will increase the amount of round-the-clock clean power available to power local digital infrastructure, including a planned Google facility in West Virginia. It will do so by pairing utility-scale solar with both short-duration lithium-ion batteries and long-duration zinc-hybrid batteries. This project is a first of its kind deployment of these zinc-hybrid batteries, manufactured by Eos in Pennsylvania. The collaboration establishes a new model for how proven and emerging technologies can be deployed together to strengthen the grid.
