## Federation in Practice

In our [previous post](https://blogs.oracle.com/cloud-infrastructure/oracle-video-edge-live-streaming-across-networks), we explained how Oracle Video Edge (OVE) coordinates relays deployed across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), other cloud providers, CDNs, and ISP networks, to support large-scale live streaming across distributed environments. Rather than relying on a single delivery network, OVE expands its delivery footprint by coordinating resources in independently operated environments to bring media closer to viewers.

At IBC2026, we’re demonstrating what that architecture looks like in practice. Working alongside leading technology providers in the media ecosystem, we’re showcasing how relays deployed inside real CDN and ISP networks can participate in a distributed delivery platform while allowing customers to continue working with providers they already depend on. These demonstrations represent an important milestone in our journey, moving from proof of concepts to production-oriented deployments.

## Coordinating Existing Infrastructure

The world’s largest live events can be challenging and, in some cases, may not be possible for a single provider to serve efficiently. Delivering live video at scale can be beyond the reach of any one provider, whether it’s OCI, a top-tier CDN, or a major ISP. Reliable delivery at scale can benefit from a hybrid approach that leverages the distinct advantages of each: global compute, regional edge distribution, and last-mile connectivity.

Rather than competing to replace those networks, OVE coordinates relays deployed across them, allowing each environment to contribute where it creates the greatest value. This approach can help preserve existing customer investments while allowing multiple organizations to participate in a unified delivery ecosystem. Technology providers can host OVE relays, operate native MOQ implementations, or combine both approaches as deployment models evolve. The result is a platform designed to expand reach through federation rather than consolidation.

At NAB, we demonstrated how independent streaming workflow components can interoperate through a common transport model. At IBC, we’re demonstrating how OVE coordinates relays deployed in diverse environments, allowing independent networks and media platforms to participate in a unified delivery architecture while helping preserve existing customer investments and operational workflows. Each IBC demonstration highlights a different aspect of coordinated delivery, showing how independently managed infrastructure can participate in a common architecture designed to support consistent behavior across the delivery path. These deployments show how OCI-hosted media applications can leverage relays operated as a single delivery platform coordinated across organizational boundaries to enable MOQ playback for end viewers

## Demonstration: Federation Across ISP Networks

**Technology Providers:** Broadpeak, BT, Bouygues Telecom

The demonstration showcases relay federation across independently operated ISP networks. A live stream originating through OVE is coordinated with Broadpeak MOQ edge relays deployed inside British Telecom and Bouygues Telecom networks. This illustrates how OVE can operate across organizational boundaries with a single coordinated delivery architecture. This provides a practical example of federation rather than a transport-only demonstration.

## Demonstration: Federation Across CDN Networks

This demonstration highlights OVE’s ability to extend its delivery footprint through independent CDNs. A live stream delivered through OVE is distributed using MOQ relay capacity running across Netskrt, Cloudflare, and MainStreaming environments. Together, these technology provider-operated relays become part of a coordinated delivery path, demonstrating how OVE can integrate external CDN capacity into a federated delivery architecture.

## Demonstration: Extending Existing Streaming Workflows

**Technology Provider:** Uplynk

Federation extends into existing OTT delivery workflows as well. This demonstration explores how OVE integrates with upstream streaming platforms, allowing established packaging, distribution, and monetization environments to feed coordinated relay delivery while helping customers build on existing workflows.

## Demonstration: Enabling Media Applications

**Technology Provider:** Akta

Federated delivery creates a foundation for applications that depend on real-time media distribution. Akta demonstrates this by combining AI-assisted search and indexing with highlight creation, contributing content into OVE through an SRT gateway before delivering it through MOQ playback. The demonstration illustrates how a coordinated delivery architecture enables new application workflows to reach viewers through streamlined integration.

## Demonstration: Playback and Viewer Experience

**Technology Providers:** OVE Playback SDK, Bitmovin, Shaka

Every deployment shares a common playback foundation built around the OVE Playback SDK and browser-based Shaka player, providing a repeatable demonstration path that illustrates publisher-to-relay-to-player workflows. Bitmovin extends this foundation with a commercial player integration, demonstrating how the architecture can support commercial playback experiences across the broader video ecosystem. The architecture is designed to support integration with additional commercial players as the ecosystem evolves. This baseline is identified in the IBC slate as the reusable demonstration path for technology provider scenarios.

Potential areas to highlight:

- Native MOQ playback with direct connection into coordinated relays.
- Low-latency playback across federated delivery paths.
- Bitmovin integration as a commercial playback option within the demonstration workflow.

## Looking Ahead

These demonstrations represent the next milestone in our journey. The architecture introduced in our previous post is now operating across infrastructure owned by multiple organizations, demonstrating how coordinated relay deployments can help expand reach while helping preserve the existing media ecosystem.

As relay distribution expands across cloud providers, CDNs, and ISP networks, the next challenge becomes operating across disparate networks as a single resilient platform.
