美国“政客新闻网”8月6日报道称，美国国防部负责政策事务的副部长埃尔布里奇·科尔比数月来一直试图争取中方的访华邀请，但迟迟未能成功。报道称，美国对台军售可能是中方态度冷淡的重要原因。
消息人士称，科尔比希望通过访华稳定因关税、出口限制以及台湾、南海等问题而紧张的中美关系，并计划前往中国国防大学发表讲话。科尔比还曾通过美国防部官员，在与中方官员会面时提出访华请求。
“他在各种会议上都极力促成此事，对此非常执着。”消息人士说。
不过，科尔比的请求并未得到积极回应。报道援引美国前国防部官员兰迪·施赖弗的话称，特朗普政府去年批准对台军售引发中方不满，这是科尔比遭冷遇的原因。
不过另一种说法是，此次访问受阻也可能是出于礼仪考虑。近年来，五角大楼政策主管从未单独访问过北京。
科尔比
值得注意的是，科尔比此人长期被视为美国对华强硬派人物。他曾主张美国应将中国视为主要战略竞争对手，炒作并警告华盛顿需要为可能的冲突做好准备。
报道指出，特朗普政府一方面寻求恢复中美军事沟通，另一方面又持续推进对华遏制措施，包括限制先进芯片出口等。在这一背景下，中美防务交流仍面临不确定性。
与此同时，美国鹰派仍不放弃操弄台海问题。近日，美国国会议员窜台，公然叫嚣推动对台军售。
据报道，资深共和党国会议员迈克尔·麦考尔近日窜访台湾，并扬言“相信总统很快会向国会提交”一份价值140亿美元的对台军售方案。
“特朗普如果将对台军售问题作为一个筹码，那就是大错特错，”海洋军事专家张军社对观察者网说，“此举属于误判中方底线，会对中美关系造成不可逆的严重损害。”
国防部新闻发言人张晓刚曾表示，“以武助独”只会引火烧身，“以台制华”不会得逞。我们敦促美方立即停止武装台湾的恶劣行径，避免冲击影响两国两军关系发展。
