Celebrations like World Watercolor Month are optional. Nobody “has” to do anything every day, nor do they need to post it. But I do love celebrations that get my mind focused on something for an extended period of time.

While the video below talks about each painting individually, I do have 3 things that will stick with me long after last month slips into the rear view mirror.

1. **Making the daily challenge “do-able” but challenging was key for me.** I know some who do a 2” painting each day - and that’s fabulous. Maybe one year I’ll do something like that. But I wanted to *really paint* each day. Not just a quickie sketch, but practice actual techniques that can’t be done on a teensy painting. And almost every day of this month, a 5” x 7” painting was indeed doable. A stretch, but doable.
2. **The daily color prompts really opened up my mind to rethinking colors.** I have swatched all the colors whether from tubes, sticks, or dotcards; but I haven’t painted a full piece focusing on every color. In all honesty, I knew swatches weren’t enough, but who has time to paint in all 272 colors? Well guess what? I plan to tackle that project in the coming years. I have yet to figure out where/how I’ll organize the results and share them, but keep your eyes peeled. I’m taking requests for specific colors you’d like to see!
3. **Posting so many reels almost melted my brain!** Instagram is such a pain, but I wanted to see if I posted mostly reels daily for a month, would it grow my page? The answer - no, not really. A few did well, some VERY well, but I don’t know that it was worth that effort. Apologies to YouTube Shorts, I didn’t always post the videos over there, because I felt like I was doing epic work just getting them onto Insta!

## Midsummer sale

We fell woefully short on our fundraising for the International Child Art Foundation; just over $300 rather than the thousands we normally raise.:( So I’m extending the fundraising through August 5, and adding a sweetener - a sale! [Get the coupon code and shop here.](https://art-classes.com/sale/)

## News from the studio

Thanks for the little bit of seashell feedback - I’m getting started on creating a few samples so I can decide what I’ll be doing….wash and ink was requested so I’ll start there, though I may still add a pencil version of class. I have something like 30 shells to pick from, so I’m trying out some drawings to see which would be easiest for level 2 students as a followup after the [Ink Drawing Jumpstart](https://art-classes.com/product/ink-drawing-jumpstart/) class. I’d like to use the techniques in that course but in combo with each other, so if you’re looking for a class to get in the sale - that’s a very popular one!

## Dad jokes

- **How do seashells chat with each other?**
	On their shell-phones!
- **Why are sea creatures so bad at sharing?**
	Because they are so shellfish.
- **What did the ocean say to the shells on the beach?**
	Nothing, it just waved.
