The effort will see Marvell build out its existing sites in Bangalore and Hyderabad with a view to doubling its headcount in the country over the next three years. The chip and optics designer said its expansion will bolster its global innovation network across areas like design and development for offerings for AI, cloud, and data infrastructure applications. “India has become a strategic hub of engineering excellence for Marvell, playing a critical role in advancing the infrastructure technologies that power the world’s leading hyperscalers and cloud providers,” Navin Bishnoi, VP and India country manager at Marvell, noted in a statement. “As we celebrate 20 years in India, we remain committed to expanding R&D investments, strengthening the country’s semiconductor ecosystem, and developing the next generation of technology talent.” Marvell first entered the Indian market in 2006, opening up shop in Bangalore. The site, which recently saw a new wing added, is now the company’s second-largest R&D organization worldwide. It has since expanded to Pune and Hyderabad, bolstering efforts to develop process technologies, high-speed analog IP, and subsystem designs, with the India offices playing a “leading role” in using AI tools to boost engineering efforts. Marvell said its efforts in India have seen it give back, having launched a scholarship for technical and engineering merit (MSTEM). This program provides students pursuing degrees in electronics, electrical engineering, and computer science with financial support and industry experience, and has already attracted more than 7,000 applicants. “We are grateful to our customers, partners, government collaborators, academic institutions, and especially our exceptional team, whose innovation, expertise, and dedication have been instrumental to the growth and success of Marvell in India,” Bishnoi added. The company’s India expansion comes as it ramps development efforts. Marvell was recently [crowned by Gartner](https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/nvidia-crowned-ai-networkings-top-dog-but-its-throne-isnt-quite-safe/) as the company to beat for AI data center optical connectivity, with its efforts further bolstered following acquisitions of silicon photonics startups [Polariton Technologies](https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/marvell-acquires-silicon-photonics-device-startup-polariton-technologies-to-advance-optical-scaling/) and [Celestial AI](https://www.sdxcentral.com/news/marvell-completes-325b-acquisition-of-photonic-startup-celestial-ai/), the latter of which it acquired for $3.25 billion.
