Axetris has built its position around two demanding technology domains: gas sensing and micro-optics. The company develops components for measuring and controlling gases, alongside micro-optical technologies for concentrating and guiding light. Its portfolio includes micro-optics, wafer fabrication services, laser gas detection, infrared sources and mass flow devices. Axetris now operates as part of the Leister Group, and manufactures in Kägiswil, Switzerland. What stands out here is not only the technology, but the industrial model behind it. Axetris describes applications spanning digital communication, process control, 3D object recognition and LiDAR, as well as stationary and mobile gas sensing, including compact systems for drone-based inspection of biogas plants and maritime emissions. It also highlights recent expansion of its Swiss cleanroom production for processes such as wafer processing, sensor assembly and calibration. Those capabilities matter even more today, as AI infrastructure leaders begin to talk more openly about the long-term role of optics in scaling next-generation systems. In the interview, we explore how Leister and Axetris think about building globally relevant businesses from highly specialized photonic and sensing technologies, and why disciplined industrial execution matters just as much as technical innovation.
